As a United Methodist congregation, we believe the following:
God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal, each possessing the attributes of the deity.
Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth as a man of human flesh and voluntarily paid for our sins by dying as our substitute. He arose from the dead, demonstrating His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return to earth to consummate history.
The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He draws us to Christ for salvation. He also lives in every Christian and equips believers for personal growth and service.
We are created by God in his spiritual image to have fellowship with Him. We have defied God by choosing to go our own way. This disobedience, called sin, separates us from God. We need God’s saving grace to end our alienation from Him.
The Bible is God’s word to all of us. The Bible was penned by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the source of truth for Christian beliefs and living, and the final authority on all matters which it bears.
Salvation is a gift from God that must be accepted individually by repentance and faith during our lifetime. This happens by trusting in Jesus Christ. When we do so trust, we receive forgiveness. No human effort or any amount of good work alone can achieve salvation.
We believe in the eternity of life. We are created to exist forever. We will live in union with God through salvation, or eternally separated from God. Eternal life with God begins the moment we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior into our life by faith.
At Union, we have been a church whose priorities are to Connect, Grow and Serve. These priorities have acted as wonderful guides for us. Each of these reflects a vital part of life at Union. We believe that Union is a place for us to Connect to one another, no matter what stage of life or what we have been through. We are dedicated to Grow God’s Kingdom and be a place where growth occurs through worship, study and group fellowship. Finally, the Christian life is truly being lived out when we begin to Serve. We are thankful that these priorities have been here to guide us but we also recognize that we are in the midst of a new movement of the Holy Spirit! Over the coming months, the leadership of Union will be looking at the vision and mission of our church and how we conceive of and live that out. So, check back in to hear about the progress we are making!
